Head of Online, UK Parliament (2005-2008)
Responsible for the overall management and redevelopment of the UK Parliament website and corporate intranet. Main duties included setting the vision for and planning redesign of the public-facing website; recruiting a new team of web producers, editors and designers; commissioning content and services from external suppliers; promoting a user-centred design approach through representing the interests of website and intranet users at a senior management level.
Development Producer, Culture Online (2004-2005)
Managed projects for Culture Online, a Department for Culture, Media and Sport initiative to increase access to, and participation in, arts and culture. These included Icons of England (an online resource exploring the English cultural landscape), My Art Space (tools to enable students to collect physical objects from cultural venues using mobile phones), SoundJunction (a ground-breaking and award-winning online music resource) and Web Design Challenge (a national design competition for schools).
Freelance Consultant (2002-2004)
New Media Manager, Channel4 Learning (2000-2001)
Responsible for management and development of Channel 4’s formal education website for schools and teachers. Tasks included developing technical and design guidelines and putting project management processes in place, managing the in-house production team, and commissioning content from third parties.
Web Producer, BBC Education (1997-2000)
Responsible for production and management of websites for audiences ranging from pre-school to adult. Projects included KS2 ReviseWise (revision service) and Computers Don’t Bite (IT skills).
